Additional information

The Tatrzańskie Ochotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe — TOPR — was founded in 1909, making this coin a centennial issue. Poland's mountain rescue services developed independently of the state, organized by climbers and guides who understood that government bureaucracy moved too slowly for avalanche response. TOPR predates the Polish republic itself by nearly a decade, operating under Austrian partition when the Tatras fell within Galicia.

The Nordic gold composition was standard for NBP's collectible 2-złoty circulation commemoratives throughout the 2000s, struck in large runs intended for general release.
