Obverse description Central field displays the arms of Basel — a black diagonal staff on white ground — set within a raised quatrefoil frame, itself surrounded by a beaded inner circle. A Gothic uncial legend encircles the design in the outer field, reading the devotional phrase Gloria in Excelsis. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of 15th-century hammered coinage, and the relief is moderately bold throughout.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)
