Reverse description The reverse bears a four-line inscription in the open field, presenting the denomination and date in a plain typographic arrangement characteristic of Danish-Norwegian hammered silver coinage of the mid-17th century. The first line reads .II. (the numeral 2, flanked by stops denoting the value), followed by SKILIN on the second line, G·DANS on the third line (abbreviated for Skilling Dansk, i.e. Danish Skilling), and the date 16·42 on the fourth line, with a small cross or mintmark separating the two pairs of date numerals. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim. No effigy or pictorial device appears on this side.
