Obverse description Large uncrowned effigy of King Oscar I facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair and a short beard. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. The surrounding circular legend reads OSCAR SVERIGES NORR. GÖTH. O VEND. KONUNG., identifying the king as ruler of Sweden, Norway, the Goths, and the Wends. The portrait occupies the majority of the field and is executed in a neoclassical style characteristic of mid-19th century Swedish coinage.
