Obverse description The Austrian state coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a displayed black eagle with spread wings bearing the Austrian escutcheon (horizontally divided in red and white) on its breast. The eagle's talons hold a hammer and a sickle, symbolising the working class, and a broken chain is suspended between them, representing liberation. The circular legend reads 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' with interpunct separators, distributed along the upper and lower periphery.
