Issued on the fiftieth anniversary of Jersey's liberation from German occupation on 9 May 1945, a date the island still observes as Liberation Day. The occupation had lasted five years — longer than any other British territory held by Nazi forces — during which the Germans constructed extensive fortifications using forced labour, some of which remain visible across the island today.
