Additional information

Jersey issued this piedfort in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of liberation from German occupation, which ended on 9 May 1945 — a date still observed as a public holiday on the island. The occupation had lasted nearly five years, during which the island's currency situation grew increasingly chaotic, with locally printed occupation notes and rationed goods replacing normal commerce entirely.

Pieforts of this type were struck at double the standard planchet thickness, a French minting tradition revived by British and Crown Dependency issues in the 1980s primarily for collector series.
