Issued to mark the 85th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation, this coin carries particular weight coming from Jersey. The island was occupied by German forces just weeks after Operation Dynamo concluded in early June 1940 — one of only two British jurisdictions to fall under Nazi control during the war. Jersey's population endured five years of occupation, making the evacuation's failure to extend to the Channel Islands a pointed historical irony that the issuing authority presumably did not overlook.
