Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the centre of the obverse, depicting a left-facing eagle with wings spread, perched upon a cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, and devouring a serpent in its beak and talon. The eagle is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base. The circular legend reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the upper periphery, with the commemorative dates MDCCCXXI and MCMXXI (1821 and 1921) divided along the lower arc, marking the centennial of Mexican independence. The mint mark Mo appears to the left of the eagle in the field.
