Opmerkingen

The Banco Nacional de Santo Domingo was a short-lived institution, chartered in 1889 under a controversial concession granted to a group of foreign investors — its notes circulated only briefly before the bank collapsed amid accusations of fraud and currency manipulation that destabilized the Dominican Republic's already fragile monetary system.

Pick 142 is among the rarer survivals from that episode. The bank's failure was swift enough that significant quantities of its notes were never redeemed, leaving a small number in private hands rather than destroyed through official recall.
