Obverse description Central field displays the crowned and quartered shield of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and Count of Flanders, rendered in the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Burgundian coinage. The shield is set within a plain inner circle, with the arms visible despite the worn surfaces typical of circulated billon issues. A Gothic circular legend surrounds the device, separated from the central motif by a beaded or plain border. The coin exhibits the irregular flan shape common to hand-struck medieval low-denomination coinage of the Flemish mints.
