Philip of Saint-Pol ruled Brabant for barely three years, from 1430 until his death in August 1431 — one of the shortest reigns in the duchy's history. He died childless, triggering a succession crisis that ended with Brabant passing to Philip the Good of Burgundy, effectively folding the duchy into the expanding Burgundian Netherlands. The mite, a low-denomination copper struck for everyday petty transactions, would have circulated heavily through markets and toll points across Brabant during this turbulent transition.
