| 背面描述 | The denomination and issuing authority are presented in three lines of bold Roman capital lettering across the field, reading DOVBLE / D / BOVILLON. Below the inscription, a fleur-de-lis is flanked symmetrically by two stylized castle or tower devices, referencing the heraldic emblems of the Duchy of Bouillon. The reverse field is plain, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |

Godefroy Maurice de la Tour d'Auvergne held Bouillon as a sovereign duchy by a thread — the territory had been seized by France under Louis XIV in 1678 during the Franco-Dutch War, and its nominal independence rested entirely on diplomatic tolerance rather than military reality. This coin was struck just three years after that occupation began, issued under a ruler who was simultaneously a French duke and a subject of the very power that had absorbed his territory.
Bouillon's coinage rights were a persistent irritant to Paris, and the mint's output in this period was sparse.
