2 Hryvni Mykola Boholyubov

Boholyubov — properly Mykola Mykolayovych Boholyubov — was one of the most decorated theoretical physicists of the Soviet era, his work on superconductivity and quantum field theory earning him the Lenin Prize, the Stalin Prize three times over, and a remarkable degree of institutional insulation that allowed him to operate across both Moscow and Kyiv scientific establishments simultaneously. Ukraine's commemorative 2 hryvni series, issued by the National Bank beginning in the 1990s, used bimetallic nickel brass planchets to distinguish these collector issues from ordinary circulation coinage. This coin appeared in 2009, the centenary of Boholyubov's birth.
