Mykhailo Petrenko (1817–1862) was a Ukrainian Romantic poet whose single published collection, Dumky i pisni ta shche deshcho (1851), contained "Dyv-lius' ya na nebo" — a poem that later became one of the most recorded Ukrainian folk songs of the 20th century, its authorship frequently forgotten by those singing it. The commemorative issue marks the bicentennial of his birth.
Petrenko spent most of his adult life as a minor court official in Kharkiv, publishing almost nothing after that sole collection.
