Issued as part of Ukraine's long-running astrological commemorative series, this coin marks the third of twelve zodiac releases planned by the National Bank — a program that ran across multiple years and drew consistent collector demand domestically. The 2014 release date places it squarely in the most turbulent year of modern Ukrainian history: the Euromaidan revolution, the annexure of Crimea, and the outbreak of conflict in the Donbas all fell within the same calendar year this coin was struck.
Distribution through normal NBU channels was disrupted that year, and several issues from 2014 saw lower effective collector availability than mintage figures alone suggest.
