The Banque Nationale de la République d'Haïti had a long and exclusive relationship with the American Bank Note Company, and this series reflects that arrangement at its most routine. What makes the run worth noting is its span: thirteen years across a single series letter progression from Y through AF, suggesting continuous reorder without redesign — a sign of institutional inertia as much as fiscal stability.
Haiti's gourde was pegged to the US dollar at five to one throughout this entire period, a fixed rate that held without devaluation from 1919 until 1991. At two gourdes, this note was effectively forty US cents.
