Obverse description Seated allegorical figure of Belgium facing right, draped in classical robes, depicted in a contemplative pose with hands resting in her lap. A sword rests against her right side, symbolising sovereignty and defence. The legend BELGIE arcs across the upper field in spaced capital letters, flanked by two small floral ornaments. The engraver's name BONNETAIN appears incuse along the left inner border. The design is executed in high relief with fine neoclassical modelling, set within a beaded border.
