Moulay Sulayman's reign opened with the suppression of the powerful Wazzani and Darqawi brotherhoods, whose revolts repeatedly disrupted both trade and tax collection across northern Morocco. Tetuan's mint — one of several operating simultaneously under the Alawis — produced its own distinct strikes, and the KM#97.5 designation separates Tetuani output from the same type struck at Fes, Marrakesh, and Meknes. The mint name on these pieces is the primary diagnostic, as dies were cut locally and show characteristic inconsistencies in letter spacing.
