| Obverse description | The inner disc features a detailed relief reproduction of a Madonna and Child, adapted from a work by the Italian Renaissance master Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, commemorating the 500th anniversary of his death. The seated female figure, draped in flowing robes, holds the infant Christ Child in her arms, rendered in a soft, classical style characteristic of Umbrian painting. The legend PERUGINO is inscribed along the left arc of the inner field, with SAN MARINO along the right arc. The commemorative dates 1523 and 2023 appear in the central field to the left of the figure, with the Rome Mint mark R at lower left and the engraver's initials MAC at lower centre. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. |
