| 背面描述 | The inner disc of the standard European reverse depicts a cartographic representation of the European continent rendered without national borders, symbolising European unity, with the face value '2 EURO' prominently displayed to the left of the map. The mintmaster's initials 'LL', the privy mark of engraver Luc Luycx, appear in the lower right of the inner field. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union flag in raised relief, uniformly distributed around the circumference. |

Spain's commemorative two-euro program has issued coins honoring UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2010, and the Monastery and Site of El Escorial — designated by UNESCO in 1984 — was a predictable but long-delayed inclusion. Philip II commissioned the complex in 1563 following the Spanish victory at Saint-Quentin, fulfilling a vow made during the battle.
Mintage was set at 4 million pieces, split between circulation strikes and collector sets, making this one of the more available Spanish commemoratives from the period.
