The legend 'SAN MARINO' arcs along the upper periphery of the inner disc, while a wind rose motif appears to the right of the portrait alongside the Rome Mint mark 'R' and the engraver's initials 'LDS'. A scroll beneath the portrait bears the commemorative dates '1506 — 2006', marking the 500th anniversary of Columbus's death. The outer ring displays the twelve stars of the European Union in the customary arrangement common to all eurozone coinage. |
