Obverse description The inner disc depicts a perspective view from the inner courtyard of the Dresden Zwinger toward the celebrated Crown Gate (Kronentor), rendered in fine architectural detail. The inscription 'SACHSEN' arcs across the lower portion of the inner field, accompanied by the country code 'D' at the base. The mint mark — one of five letters: 'A', 'D', 'F', 'G', or 'J' — appears at the upper right of the field alongside the engraver's initials 'JT' (Jordi Truxa), while the year '2016' is positioned at the upper left. The surrounding copper-nickel ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union.
