Obverse lettering BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN 2006
(Translation: Beatrix Queen of the Netherlands 2006)
Reverse description The reverse displays the first-series European Union map design by Luc Luycx, depicting the fifteen member states of the EU as they appeared at the time of the coin's introduction. The map is rendered in relief against a lined background representing the globe, positioned to the left of centre. The face value '2 EURO' is inscribed to the right of the map in bold numerals, with the engraver's initials 'LL' incorporated discreetly into the design. Twelve stars of the European Union encircle the outer ring of the bimetallic coin. The reverse is common to all eurozone member states issuing this denomination during the first map series.
