| Obverse description | The centre of the coin bears a right-facing portrait of Louis Braille, with his initials 'L' and 'B' rendered in the tactile dot alphabet he invented incorporated into the design. The legend 'LOUIS BRAILLE' arcs above the effigy, while the issuing country code 'BE' and the commemorative dates '1809' and '2009' appear below. The mint mark and the signature mark of the Master of the Mint are positioned to the left and right of the portrait respectively in the field. The coin's outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union in accordance with the standard €2 reverse design. |
