Sigismund von Schrattenbach served as Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg from 1753 until his death in December 1771, and these ducats fall within his final years — a period when the archbishopric's mint was producing gold coinage of consistently high fineness against a backdrop of broader Habsburg monetary pressure to standardize coinage across affiliated territories. Schrattenbach is perhaps better remembered today as the ecclesiastical employer who dismissed the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from court service, a decision made just months before the archbishop died.
