| Reverse description | Saint Peter, nimbed and bearded, stands facing left in full figure, extending the keys of the Church toward the kneeling pope at right. The pontiff, wearing the papal tiara and ceremonial vestments, receives the keys in a gesture of investiture, a canonical iconographic motif affirming papal authority derived from the Apostle. Both figures are rendered in the vigorous yet archaic style characteristic of 15th-century Roman hammered gold coinage. The legend encircles the scene along the periphery of the coin. |
