Hieronymus von Colloredo, Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg from 1772, was among the most committed Josephinist reformers in the Holy Roman Empire — suppressing monasteries, curtailing feast days, and dragging the Salzburg church into Enlightenment-era administrative discipline whether his clergy wanted it or not. The 1782 jubilee issue marks the tenth anniversary of his consecration, not a civil or political milestone, making it an ecclesiastical vanity piece in the strictest sense.
Colloredo is better remembered today as Mozart's employer — and the man Mozart famously fled. By the time this coin was struck, that rupture had already occurred; Mozart had been dismissed, literally kicked out, in 1781.
