| 背面描述 | A finely detailed gold (.9999)-plated polar bear strides purposefully across an icy landscape within a raised inner circle, its powerful form rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The outer ring of the bimetallic-style composition bears the country name 'CANADA' arcing across the top and the denomination '2 DOLLARS' across the bottom, both in bold, widely spaced lettering. The engraver's initials appear discreetly in the lower right of the inner field. The contrast between the gold-toned centre and the dark silver outer ring creates a striking visual effect characteristic of the standard circulation toonie design adapted here for a proof presentation. |

Issued to mark fifty years of Elizabeth II's accession, this piece belongs to a small cluster of commemoratives the Royal Canadian Mint produced in 2002 across multiple finishes and compositions — the same design appeared in base metal circulation strikes, straight silver proof, and this gold-plated variant. The plating is .9999 fine gold over .925 silver, a combination the RCM used selectively during this period to offer visual contrast at a lower price point than solid gold issues.
The Golden Jubilee year also marked the last time a Canadian commemorative program of this scale would celebrate a reign milestone before Elizabeth II's death in 2022 — her Platinum Jubilee in the same year generated no comparable Canadian coinage program of equivalent depth.
