Additional information

Niue has issued commemorative silver rounds under its name since the 1990s primarily because its currency arrangement with New Zealand gives it legal tender authority without requiring a functional monetary system — a setup that makes it attractive to bullion and collector program operators. The Pushkin issue is part of a broader Russian literary series marketed heavily toward Russian collectors and the CIS diaspora market, produced by a private mint under license rather than any state numismatic office.

Pushkin died in February 1837 from wounds sustained in a duel with Georges-Charles de Heeckeren d'Anthès, a French officer who had been courting Pushkin's wife.
