Pac-Man debuted in Japanese arcades in May 1980 under the name Puck-Man — the Western release renamed it to prevent an obvious act of vandalism on the cabinet lettering. The Solomon Islands has become a reliable vehicle for licensed pop-culture bullion issues, partly because its mint agreements with private producers allow rapid turnaround on themed releases that larger sovereign mints would reject outright. This piece is essentially a privately contracted collectible using a Pacific island nation's issuing authority as infrastructure.
