| Obverse description | Round bronze cash coin with a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim (inner rim). The four-character reign title legend 熙寧重寶 (Xi Ning Zhong Bao) is disposed in clerical script (lishu) reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left in the four quadrants around the central square hole. The characters are bold and well-defined in relief, exhibiting the characteristic flat-topped strokes of Northern Song clerical script. A plain raised outer rim borders the coin, and the flat field between the inner and outer rims shows extensive olive-brown patina with areas of green cuprite corrosion. |
