Issued to commemorate the coronation of Vajiralongkorn as Rama X in May 2019, following a mourning period of nearly three years after the death of his father Bhumibol Adulyadej — the world's longest-reigning head of state at the time of his passing in 2016. The delay between Bhumibol's death and the formal coronation was itself a matter of deliberate royal protocol, not unusual by Thai tradition but conspicuous given the length of the interregnum.
The 19,000 baht face value corresponds directly to the Buddhist Era year 2562, a denominational convention the Royal Thai Mint has used for commemorative gold issues tied to significant dynastic events.
