Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, depicted in the late antique imperial style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage. The effigy shows the emperor wearing a pearl diadem and military cuirass with paludamentum draped over the left shoulder. The surrounding field carries the Latin imperial titulature legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat squared flan typical of hammered Thessalonican issues of this reign, with a beaded border visible around the obverse field.
