| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing right, rendered in a somewhat stylized late antique manner characteristic of Byzantine provincial coinage. The emperor wears a pearl diadem and military cuirass with a visible paludamentum draped over the shoulder. The bust is set within a circular border, with the imperial Latin legend arranged around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the compact, slightly abstracted facial treatment typical of hammered bronze issues from the Thessalonica mint during Justinian's reign. |
