| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique Byzantine imperial style typical of sixth-century copper coinage. The emperor wears a jewelled diadem surmounted by a central ornament, with visible paludamentum (military cloak) secured at the shoulder. The portrait occupies the central field, with the circumferential imperial legend disposed around the periphery. The flan is irregular, as characteristic of hammered Byzantine nummi, with areas of flat strike. |
