The Khalifa World Energy Forum was held in Abu Dhabi in October 2012, convening heads of state and energy ministers to address global fossil fuel dependency and the accelerating push toward renewables — a pointed agenda for a nation whose GDP had been built almost entirely on petroleum exports. The UAE's decision to issue a high-denomination commemorative in 22-karat gold for the occasion was as much a diplomatic gesture as a numismatic one.
At 60 grams, this is among the heaviest modern UAE gold issues, placing it well outside the reach of casual collectors and firmly in the territory of sovereign presentation pieces.
