| Reverse description | A bold, high-relief bust portrait of the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven is presented facing slightly to the right, occupying the central field. The effigy captures Beethoven's characteristically intense expression, with deeply furrowed brow, strong jawline, and his famously disheveled, flowing hair rendered with fine sculptural detail. The legend LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN arcs along the upper periphery in large capital letters, flanked by a raised dot on each side, all within a beaded border. The composer's birth and death years, 1770-1827, are inscribed in the lower field beneath the portrait. |

Paraguay's 1974 commemorative program was part of a broader wave of silver issues produced for the international collector market — coins with no practical domestic circulation, minted largely for export revenue. The Beethoven subject had no particular connection to Paraguay; it was one of several cultural figures selected to capitalize on the 1970 bicentennial of Beethoven's birth, which had already triggered commemorative programs across Europe and beyond.
KM#108 was struck in .999 fine silver at a purity unusual for the period, targeting coin collectors rather than bullion buyers.
