Camp scrip issued under the XIV Armeekorps inspection authority at Karlsruhe, covering prisoner-of-war enclosures during the First World War. Germany's PoW camp currency system was among the most administratively elaborate of any belligerent — individual corps districts issued their own denominations, which were deliberately non-convertible outside the camp economy to prevent funds from financing escape attempts or reaching the civilian population.
The 15 Pfennig denomination is an awkward one, suggesting it was calibrated to a specific canteen price list rather than issued as general-purpose scrip.
