| Obverse description | Facing bee rendered in fine relief, with outspread wings, segmented thorax, and prominent compound eyes, occupying the central field. The civic abbreviation E-Φ (for Ephesos) flanks the bee, with E to the left and Φ to the right, serving as the principal identifying legend of the issuing city. The design is bold and naturalistic, characteristic of Ephesian coinage of the fourth century BC, in which the bee served as the city's principal civic emblem. |
