| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Justinian I facing right, the diadem rendered with pellets or jewels, the imperial robe ornamented by a distinctive row of pellets along its border. The effigy is rendered in the late antique style characteristic of early Byzantine silver coinage struck at Ravenna. The Latin imperial legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait, though small in module, retains the formal dignity of official imperial iconography. |
