| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded effigy of King Carl XV facing right, with finely rendered curly hair and full beard in a naturalistic portrait style. The legend encircles the bust in two parts: CARL XV NORGES SVER.G.V.KONGE along the upper arc and LAND SKAL MED LOV BYGGES along the lower arc, separated by small ornamental stops. The field is plain and unadorned, allowing the high-relief portrait to dominate the flan. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim throughout. |

| Reverse description | Crowned Norwegian coat of arms at center, flanked by oak branches forming a wreath that encloses the denomination. The denomination numeral 12 appears above the abbreviation SK, with the four-digit date split into two pairs and separated at the bottom of the design by two crossed mining hammers, a reference to the Kongsberg Mint. The crowned shield bears the rampant lion passant, the traditional arms of Norway. A beaded rim frames the entire reverse design. |
