| Obverse description | The obverse features a colorized central design depicting the famous whirlpools of the Naruto Strait in the lower portion, rendered in naturalistic color against a polished field. Above and flanking the whirlpools, figures performing the traditional Awa Odori dance are shown in dynamic poses. A branch of Sudachi citrus blossom, the prefectural flower of Tokushima, appears as an additional design element.
