1000 Roubles Vladivostok

The Vladivostok Branch of the State Bank operated in a city that, by 1920, was caught between the retreating Whites, Japanese occupation forces, and the advancing Red Army — making "state bank" a generous term for what was functionally a regional authority printing money to maintain some semblance of economic order. These high-denomination rouble issues were a direct response to the hyperinflationary collapse of purchasing power that made smaller notes nearly useless for transactions.

Printed locally under far from ideal conditions, production quality across the series is inconsistent. The Japanese withdrew from Vladivostok in October 1922, after which the Far Eastern Republic was absorbed into Soviet Russia and these notes were rendered worthless almost overnight.
