| 裏面の説明 | A finely engraved portrait bust of Johann Sebastian Bach is rendered in high relief at the centre of the field, depicting the celebrated Baroque composer facing slightly to the right, wearing a full period wig with voluminous curled locks and a cravat. The date '1985' appears vertically along the left field, and the inscription 'J. S. BACH' is placed vertically along the right field. The denomination 'L. 1000' is inscribed in large characters along the lower field, with the Rome mint mark 'R' to the lower left and the engraver's name 'VEROI' to the lower right. |

San Marino issued this coin in the same year West Germany and East Germany both staged major commemorations marking the 300th anniversary of Bach's birth — an odd position for a microstate with no particular connection to the composer. San Marino's ongoing silver commemorative program throughout the 1980s was largely export-driven, aimed at collector markets rather than domestic circulation, and most examples were sold directly through the San Marino mint to foreign dealers and philatelic agencies.
