Additional information

San Marino issued this piece as part of its broader program of commemorative silver aimed squarely at the collector market — the republic's primary revenue strategy through much of the late 20th century. The Barcelona Games were still a year out when this was struck, following the IOC's 1986 decision to separate Summer and Winter Olympics onto alternating two-year cycles, making Barcelona 1992 the last Summer Games to share a calendar year with a Winter edition.
