Additional information

Belgium's postwar monetary reform of 1944 had already redenominated the franc before this trial was struck, making a 1000-franc copper piece an unusual denomination to test in this metal — copper was well below the practical range for a note-replacement coin of that value. Trial strikes like this were produced by the Brussels mint to evaluate die quality and relief depth before committing to a production alloy, and copper's malleability made it the preferred proofing medium regardless of the intended final composition.
