Father Frost — Ded Moroz in Russian tradition — is a Soviet-era reimagining of an older Slavic winter figure, deliberately shaped by the USSR in the 1930s as a secular alternative to Saint Nicholas. Guinea's issuance of this design sits within a long tradition of small African states producing gold fractionals aimed entirely at the European and Asian collector market, with no pretense of domestic circulation.
