| Obverse description | The central field features the full national coat of arms of Costa Rica, depicting three volcanoes rising above a maritime scene with a sailing vessel, flanked by ornate scrollwork supporters and coffee branches on either side. A ribbon above the shield bears the legend AMERICA CENTRAL, while a second ribbon below reads REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA, with seven stars arcing across the upper portion of the shield.
