Issued to mark the reign of Rama X (Vajiralongkorn), this coin's secondary reference to Rama VIII — his uncle Ananda Mahidol — carries unusual weight. Ananda died in 1946 under circumstances never officially resolved: a gunshot wound in the Grand Palace, two attendants executed, and a verdict of regicide that the royal family consistently disputed. Thai lèse-majesté law has kept public discussion of the case effectively suppressed for decades.
